Alison George is an award-winning science writer and editor who focusses on life sciences, health and archaeology. She was a finalist for the 2023 'British science journalist of the year' award, and is a former winner of the 'PTC New Journalist of the Year' award. She started her career as researcher with the British Antarctic Survey, spending 18 months in the Antarctic, and has a PhD and BSc in biochemistry.
She is currently a features editor at New Scientist. She has written about everything from cold-water swimming, the secret life of cheese, the reason why we’re conscious to the mysteries of Stonehenge. and is particularly proud that an article she wrote helped save a lab for genius birds. Previously she wrote and edited a series of books for New Scientist including The Brain: A User’s Guide and The Quantum World.
